Some figures

Armas Launis was primarily an opera composer.

He composed ten operas, and also wrote the libretti.

His first operas, composed in Finnish, were enthusiastically received.

Three of his operas were staged: The Seven Brothers (1913), Kullervo (1917), and Aslak Hetta (2004).

Two operas remained unfinished: Theodoora (1939) and The Summer That Never Came (1936).

The Witch’s Song (1934), The Enchanted Scarf (1938), Jehudith (1940), and Once Upon a Time (1944, unorchestrated) were never performed.

His last opera, Frozen Flames (1957, unorchestrated), will premiere in Helsinki in July 2026.
